Are you ready for the island but don’t know where you can book your stay? We created a list of Tourism Gold Standard certified Caye Caulker hotels and accommodations that are approved for reopening.
To keep visitors and residents safe, the Belize Tourism Board has created an extensive “Tourism Gold Standard Recognition Program” as part of its phased reopening plan. This 9-point program includes new guidelines and operating protocols for the tourism industry.
A Gold Standard entity is one that has thoroughly followed the new safety procedures and has the guests’ safety as their utmost priority.
The program currently includes accommodations and tour operators. However, now also stand-alone restaurants, gift shops, tourism sites and approved transport can be certified, deeming them safe for visitors who choose Belize as their vacation destination. Therefore, we will publish lists of the additional recognized Caye Caulker businesses once certified.

Maxhapan is a boutique Hotel located approximately 500ft from the beach. It consist of three rooms that sits in a clean, safe, secure & garden environment to include 2 full-size beds , private bath, hot/cold shower, A/C, TV, ceiling fan, refrigerator, coffeepot, microwave, table/chairs, private verandah with hammock/deck chairs, also complimentary bicycles & Wi-Fi system.

The Tourism Gold Standard Hotels listing is being updated regularly, as the BTB continues to process applications, inspect hotels and approve new hotels for recognition into the Program. Our hotels have all raised the standard of health and safety protocols being implemented on their property, as we prepare to welcome back travelers to Caye Caulker, Belize.
What Is Tourism Gold Standard?
Tourism Gold Standard hotels are those that:
- Appoint a Gold Standard Program Manager to implement protocols and ensure compliance
- Implement Monitoring & Reporting system to conduct non-invasive health checks
- Ensure Social Distancing Protocols for workers and visitors
- Implement Enhanced Cleaning & Sanitization Procedures
- Develop a Response Plan to properly manage COVID-19 suspected cases
- Ensure Clear & Consistent Communication with employees and guests of the protocols and their impact
- Install Sanitization Stations
- Deploy technology such as online check-in/out, contactless payment systems, and automated ordering/booking systems
- Implement a training plan for staff to ensure that they are prepared to manage and implement the protocols
