When To Visit Caye Caulker Belize
Weather
Of course one of the most frequently asked questions is when to visit Caye Caulker Belize.
One of the nicest things about visiting Caye Caulker is the weather. With an average yearly temperature of 84° F (29°C), it’s always warm, yet comfortable. Especially on the Caye with the sea breeze! It rains much less on the Cayes than on the mainland, so don’t worry if your online weather forecast predicts rain for the duration of your stay. You most likely won’t see it!
We hardly ever look at the forecast. There’s nothing you can do about it anyway! However, if you must know, the most accurate forecast we find comes from Windfinder.
Seasons
Winter
In winter (November to March) the temperature is incredibly pleasant and rarely falls below 65°F (18°C). We may have a few days with temperatures around 75°F (24°C). That’s when you see visitors in bathing suits and locals in sweaters and scarves.
Summer
In summer (May-September) it’s around 85°F (30°C). Humidity is also fairly consistent at around 85 percent.
Dry Season
Dry season is between February and May and has significantly lower rainfall than the rest of the year. When it does rain, it is usually in mild, short bursts. But again, this applies to the mainland more than to our small Caye Caulker where you often see the rainfall passing by at the reef, but never get a drop of it on the island!
Rainy Season
June through December is rainy season, when parts of the country receive up to 150 inches of rain and the heavy, sometimes wild storms associated with the Caribbean occur, usually in the late afternoons. The most frequent rainfall usually happens in June or early July and is punctuated by a break in late July or August known as the “little dry.”
Hurricane Season
Yes, we also have a hurricane season. While statistically Belize does not attract many major direct hits, it does get its share of severe tropical weather with high winds and rain. However, we have a cooperative early warning network that gives us plenty of time to prepare. Our safety, evacuation and other procedures have proven to be effective, so no worries. However, it’s the time of the year when we keep and eye on Mike’s Weather Page!
But no matter what season you visit, chances are you have a great time on Caye Caulker!
